Dear Parents and Carers,
We've been blessed with some beautiful weather this week, spring has sprung and there's positivity in the air!
We've received some very exciting news on Monday: Our admission numbers for September have increased by just over 100%. Year 7 will be our biggest year group next year. This is so encouraging and shows the impact of our school improvement journey. I know a number of you have spoken positively to prospective parents. Thank you very much for your support, it means so much.
Mrs Collins led our whole school assembly on Monday, introducing the next steps in our Arbor roll-out to the pupils. When we return from Easter we will be moving to the Arbor platform for everything. Parents, carers and pupils will be able to monitor attendance, homework, progress and behaviour on their app from home. We feel having one platform is a more efficient way of working for all stakeholders.
Congratulations to our Year 7 and Year 8 Netball Teams this week. We are so proud of you! Year 7 beat John Hanson 8-2 and Year 8 John Hanson 24-1, fantastic results. Well done to our Players of the Match - Charlee E and Lara C. Thank you very much to Mrs Vaughan and Mrs Elgar for coaching our teams so well!
World Book Day was a huge success once again. Well done to those who dressed up, I think the staff enjoyed it even more than the pupils! We were very lucky to have a visiting author - Kirsty Applebaum. Our KS3 pupils found Kirsty's session inspiring. Thank you to Mrs Dunn, Miss Barton and Miss Ward for organising all the activities.
A big thank you to Mr Draper and his Land-Based LORIC group for transforming our allotment and polytunnel area. It will be wonderful to have the area back in full use for the pupils again.
We look forward to welcoming our Year 9 pupils, parents and carers to our Options evening on Thursday. We hope you find the evening useful. The welcome speeches take place in the hall at 6:00pm, followed by the options fair in the gym until 7:30pm.
Mrs Collins also shared our concerns about mobile phones being used inappropriately in school, as well as the negative impact they are having out of school. Of course, there are many positives to having a mobile phone, which were also shared to ensure we have a balanced approach. We had a positive response to the parent survey put out last week, with a range of parental views on this subject. Many thanks for responding. Next steps will be shared with you next week.
I still have a few tickets left for the Stage Performance SIX on April 2nd 2025 at the Kings Theatre in Portsmouth. Please use this link if your child would like to join us (link)
Our wonderful PTA are organising a Jumble Sale in Broughton Village Hall on March 23rd at 2pm. If you’re having a spring clear out, we’d appreciate your donations. Please can donations be brought into school by Thursday 21st March and placed on the stage (see further details in our blog below).
Have a lovely weekend when it comes.
Nicky Goodridge, Head of School
