Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you and your families are well.
As we approach the end of term, topics are coming to an end. Summative assessments have taken place across the school to check learning. Year 7-10 have completed assessments in each subject, we will be sending reports out via Arbor next week. Staff have been very complimentary about pupils' attitude to learning and efforts during the assessments. It's been a very long term indeed, resilience has been well and truly exercised!
We continue to work on improving the bus services. I've had another meeting with a bus company this week to speed up pick-up times. In the new year we would like to establish a working party with parents to go through the options we've explored. I will send out a link in January. If you would like to be involved, please do sign up.
As a community, we have been thinking about those who may be struggling at this time of year and how we can help. The LORIC Community Group have organised a range of things to help others or brighten people's days. Our 'giving tree' project finishes on Monday. Pupils have been encouraged to take a tag from the tree and bring in the item on Monday. Each tag has an item that Andover Foodbank are desperately in need of at the moment. Here's a list of the items, all donations will be gratefully received, pupils don't need to have taken a tag in order to donate.
- Gravy granules
- Savoury cheese biscuits/crackers
- Stuffing
- Multipack crisps
- Marshmallows
- Toilet paper
- Frying pans
- Tinned soup
- Toiletries
We have lots to look forward to this week. On Monday, our Community Group are hosting a Christmas party for some children from Stockbridge Primary School. Earlier this term, the group spent a number of weeks visiting the children in school and helping them with their reading. They are very excited to be hosting them at Danebury and spreading some festive joy.
On Monday evening we have our Christmas Carol Concert at St. Peter's Church, it would be lovely to see you if you can make it. There will be hot chocolate from 6.30 and the concert will start at 7.00 pm. It will be a magical evening.
On Wednesday it's Christmas jumper day, normal uniform needs to be worn along with the jumper. At lunchtime, we have our annual Christmas lunch. I would love to see as many children and staff as possible sitting down together for lunch. We have subsidised it this year to ensure it's accessible for all. The cost is £2 for 2 courses, payable on Arbor. Pupils in receipt of free school meals do not need to pay. The LORIC Hospitality group have organised the event and will serve the lunches. In addition, our LORIC Enterprise group and Catering group will be selling the products they've made in the hall. After lunch, we have an assembly to showcase some of the LORIC projects as well as a presentation of awards.
To round the year off, we will be holding our end of term Awards Assembly to celebrate the amazing achievements of all our pupils. For the first time ever, every pupil will be recognised for a particular achievement. I'm really looking forward to this! At 13:35 we will be waving the children off for the 2-week break. Buses have been notified of this earlier finish.
Have a good weekend.
Nicky Goodridge, Head of School
