Why To Stop Littering

by Ted Judges & Lily Clarke

(LORIC Environmental Group)

Our Loric Group went out to the Bus Bays last week and collected 2 bin bags worth of rubbish.

And every day more litter is dropped around the local area.

Why is this a problem?
  • 3 Million animals die a year from eating litter.
  • Causes visual pollution (not nice to look at).
  • Can cost local councils and the government a lot of money to clean up.
  • Plastic can take a very long time (20-500 years) to decompose.
  • Can negatively impact people’s mental health.

Impacts On Animals

  • Sea Turtles – 1000 die every year from litter
  • Sea Birds – 1 million die every year from litter
